The options on how to handle my hamstring tear have become limited. After much consideration I will have hamstring surgery in September 2020. Read on to see how I came to this difficult decision.

WELCOME!

Welcome!
I’m a 43 year redheaded runner-  living and working in Central Connecticut with my long time loving husband (and sometimes running czar) Mark and our dog Harley.
I have always enjoyed sports but it wasn't until 11 years ago that I decided to "take up" running.  Since then, running has allowed me to have some awesome adventures as well as meet some pretty cool people.
Along with running, I am also passionate about food and drink, considering myself a bit of an amateur food geek.
So I decided to start my blog to combine both of these passions by documenting my journey to balance the two - one step at a time.
So thanks for stopping by and as always - Keep Calm. Eat Well. Run Strong.

🍗Fun Fact 🍗- Fried Chicken is one of my guil 🍗Fun Fact 🍗- Fried Chicken is one of my guilty pleasures.

So I literally did a fist ✊ pump and let out a cluck (working from home has its perks so only Harley heard me) when I received an invite to taste some of the upcoming menu items from the soon-to-be opening @citizenchickenanddonuts and whole-heartedly participate in Sunday's #nationalbreakyourresolutionsday.

Located in former storefront of Hartford Baking Company's New Park Avenue location @kluggage and executive chef @vanhurd40 have cooked up a sweet and savory concept to satisfy anyone's pallet.

These photos might not do this food justice but I assure you the flavors of the fried chicken (crispy and juicy - even after a car ride home), collard greens (mellow and meaty), accompanying dipping sauce (smoky), pickles, and the delightfully sweet cinnamon sugar-coated donut were most certainly not.

So make sure you head over to @citizenchickenanddonuts and give them a follow to not only keep up to date on their opening date but to drool over more of their cluckin' (sorry I had to get a🐔 pun in my post somewhere) good menu items.

I started making this #Recipe last year when 1️⃣ I purchased an Instant Pot on Black Friday and 2️⃣I needed to make something out of a delicious loaf of Brioche Bread my good friend @meghanmherz made for me.⠀😭
⠀
We make it for New Year's day because all the preparation is done the night before - leaving you to only pop it in the Instant Pot the next morning. (Perfect for those lazy Sunday Mornings).⠀
⠀
It's become a favorite in our household, and even though my bread baking friend has moved away (sadness) - this brioche we got from aldi's worked great.⠀
⠀
I can't speak to how the leftovers taste because their have yet to be any - so I consider this recipe to be aa success.⠀

1/2c Milk⠀
1/2c Granulated Sugar⠀
1/2t Ground Cinnamon⠀
1 1/2t Pure Vanilla Extract⠀
1/4t Kosher Salt⠀
1/2t Finely Grated Lemon Zest⠀
3/4lb Brioche or challah bread, cute into 2 inch cubes⠀
1c mixed berries⠀
2c Water⠀
Confectionary Sugar⠀
Non-stick spray⠀

✅Spray a 1.5q round ceramic baking dish with butter⠀
⠀
✅Wisk together first seven ingredients together, in a medium bowl.⠀
⠀
✅Arrange one layer of bread (nestled together), one layer of berries and repeat until you reach the line of the baking dish.⠀
⠀
✅Pour the liquid mixture over the top, making sure to thoroughly coat the mixture. Cover the dish with foil.⠀
⠀
✅Place the baking dish on the steam rack and lower into your Instant Pot already has the 2c of water poured in.⠀
⠀
✅Lock the lid in place. Select Pressure Cook and cook for 30 minutes.⠀
⠀
✅Let steam release naturally for 15 minutes and then vent.⠀
⠀
✅Life out of the Instant Pot, remove foil, and dust with Confectionary sugar if desired. ⠀

✔️I substituted Evaporated Milk for the heavy cream and Splenda for the Sugar and it tasted just as good.⠀
⠀
✔️Be careful not to over fill your baking dish - I did so the first time with some overflowing results.
This week marked some highs ⬆️ and lows ⬇️ This week marked some highs ⬆️ and lows ⬇️in my recovery from hamstring surgery.

⬆️ My surgeon finally gave me clearance to start "training" to possibly maybe in Feb ❤️❤️❤️.

⬇️PT now has me doing ladder drills and let me tell you I am both uncoordinated and out of practice. 😫 Thank God no one is videotaping me.

⬆️ I’ve had my @onepeloton AND I LOVE IT. I use it every day and really think it’s helping my recovery. I really love the bike classes but also love the strength and stretching classes available.

⬇️ Given free reign I "might" have over done it on the bike leading o some soreness and a subsequent minor meltdown that @markciccio got to witness and deal with. Luckily backing off on the bike while still working those PT exercises did trick!

My recovery has been pretty uneventful up until now so I was bound to hit some bumps as I work to regain my strength.

So tell me what's been a high or a low.of your week??

As a fan of @pickybars granola I was one of the first to try their new Grain Free Performance Granola over the Summer.

Call of the Wild Blueberry (with almond butter, maple & rosemary) falls in line their other products providing balanced and sustainable nutrition that also tastes delicious! 🤩

Their grain-free granola is definitely not as sweet as many of the run of the mill granola flavors on the market. I was unsure 🤞how I would like the flavor of rosemary in my granola but it pairs so well with the blueberry flavor. 👍

Made with chickpea flakes (instead of oats) their #grainfree granola has a unique flavor while still providing a bit of sweetness.

It's definitely been a welcome addition to my daily morning yogurt.

What's your favorite grab and go #breakfast ?
